Six of Swords
The Six of Swords is the 3rd composition I wrote for this project. When I started writing this on Dec. 22, 2015, my intention was for it to be a guitar duo. I like drones in music so I started by hitting the A string of my guitar and improvising until I found something I liked. This piece was composed very quickly while trying to envision myself as the hooded figure in the boat. This card can mean a painful but necessary transition. While improvising I just wrote down what felt right without thinking too much about what I was playing.
The solo section begins with the Dm(maj)7 for the eerie feeling. Since I like having common notes between chords the Bbmaj7#11 made sense to come next. To show a sense of uncertainty I extended the A7#5 of the minor ii V to be two bars so the whole solo section is 9 bars long.
